Apple Find My app - Update your Pebblebee

To check if your Pebblebee device has an update available, follow the video instructions or the steps outlined below:

Install the Pebblebee app on your phone

  1. Temporarily download the Pebblebee app on your phone.

Don't worry, you won't need to create an account or link your device to it. Once the Pebblebee item is updated, you can go back to the app of your preference.

Download the Pebblebee iOS app

Download the Pebblebee Android app

  1. Make sure your Bluetooth is ON.
  • Go to Settings and search for "Bluetooth". Turn it ON.
  1. Does your unit beep when you press it 5 times?

My item is paired with Apple Find My app

These steps will help you update your Pebblebee unit when it is already linked to Apple Find My app.

  1. Open the Pebblebee app.
  2. Tap on the blue button that says 'Software update' (No login required).
  3. On your Pebblebee item, press the button five times to make it discoverable (button is located where the bee logo is).
  • Your unit will shortly beep 3 times and flash its light (Clip will flash a dark blue light 3 times).
  1. On the Pebblebee app screen, an item should appear on the list as 'PB-xxxx'. eg. 'PB-2345'.

Not seeing the item here? Check the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Quickly tap 'Check update' to check for any available update for your item.
  2. If there is an update available, follow the in-app steps.
  3. Done. After update is finished, you can resume using your unit with Apple Find My app.
  • Wait about 1 min after the update has finished before attempting to buzz your unit.
Note: If you updated your Pebblebee item using the Pebblebee app while it was still paired with the Apple Find My app, the firmware version might not appear as updated. To see the new firmware version in the Find My app details, you'll need to remove the device and then re-add. Not seeing your device?

  • Make sure Bluetooth is ON.
  • Make sure phone and Pebblebee item are near to each other.
  • Close the app and open it again.
  • Try the 5 button presses on your item again. There should be an light and sound indication if done correctly.
  • Make sure your device is charged. Press and hold the button, the LEDs should indicate the battery level.

Attempt a disable and re-enable of your unit
  1. Locate the button on the front of the item - under the Pebblebee logo.
  2. Tripe-press the button and on the third press keep holding for ~10 seconds until you hear 2 beep sounds
  3. Release before the end of the 2nd beep. An audible confirmation will sound.
  4. Wait for about 10 seconds.
  5. Single-press your unit to reactivate.

If you continue having trouble connecting to your unit:

Temporarily remove your item
  1. Open the Apple Find My app.
  2. Select the device you want to update.
  3. On the bottom on the page, tap 'Remove item' and 'Remove' to confirm it.
  4. Go back to the Pebblebee app and re-attempt the update process.
  5. Double-press your Pebblebee item to make it discoverable.

In case your unit does not enter pairing mode after a double-press:

  • On your Pebblebee item, to perform a factory reset, press the button three times, then press and hold on the fourth until the item beeps, releasing it before the third beep finishes.

  1. Follow the in-app steps to update your item.

Add your device back to the Apple Find My app
  1. Open the Apple Find My app.
  2. Go to 'Items', then tap on the + sign with 'Add Other Item'.
  3. Double-press your item's button.
  4. Pair your unit.

My item is not paired yet

If you have a Gen 1 device (How to identify your Clip and Card generation) check these steps instead.

  1. Open the Pebblebee app
  2. Tap on the blue button that says 'Software update' (No login required).
  3. On your Pebblebee item, press the button two times to make it discoverable (button is located where the bee logo is).
  4. Your item will enter pairing mode, it will beep, and continue to flash its light (Clip will be flashing a light blue color).
  5. On the Pebblebee app screen, an item should appear on the list as 'PB-xxxx'. eg. 'PB-2345'.

Not seeing the item here? Check the troubleshooting steps below.

  1. Quickly tap 'Check update' to check if there is an update available for your item.
  2. If there is an update available, follow the in-app steps.
  3. Done. After the update is finished, you can start using your item.
  • Wait around 1 min after the update has finished before attempting to claim your item.

Not seeing your item on the list?

  • Make sure Bluetooth is ON.
  • Make sure phone and Pebblebee unit are near each other.
  • Close the app and open it again (How to force kill or close the app).
  • Try the 2 button presses on your Pebblebee device again. Your device should been and flash.
  • Make sure your device is charged. Press and hold the button, the LEDs should indicate the battery level.

Update failed - Troubleshooting steps to update your unit

  • Reset Bluetooth and app connections
  • Force close the Pebblebee app (How to force kill or close the app).
  • Check your internet connection
  • Turn Bluetooth OFF and Back ON.
  • Move to a different room, away from other Bluetooth devices.
  • Make a factory reset of your unit.
  • Re-attempt the update steps
