Optimize your Pebblebee app performance

Updated by Marina

Although we continue to improve the Pebblebee app to ensure it will always provide accurate tracking and scan your devices reliably, there are a couple of things that you can do to ensure the app has a better performance on your phone.

Allow all permissions

The permissions we require for our app are needed to keep tracking your device and know its location in case it gets lost. To make sure we will be able to find your item, we need to be able to check if it is still there.

  • Location

-> Set to 'Always allow'.

-> Enable 'Precise location'.

  • Bluetooth -> Keep it ON all the time.
  • Motion & Fitness -> Enable to improve 'Left Behind' and 'Virtual Fence' alerts.
For Find My app users, Location can only be set to 'While Using the App'.

Location accuracy

When your device is connected over Bluetooth, the app will use your phone's GPS. Phones running iOS or Android 12 or later have a setting called 'Precise Location' or 'Improve accuracy' that uses nearby Wifi and Bluetooth to improve the accuracy of your location.

Turning ON those settings can improve your device's location accuracy considerably. Please check this article for the steps on How to improve location on Android and iOS.

Additional settings for Android users

Some manufacturers have default settings to save battery and improve the phone's performance. Although these settings are great, some of them can prevent the Pebblebee app to keep track of your items.

On your phone settings, you will find ways of white-listing the Pebblebee app so it is not shut down by your phone's Operating System. The actual steps and options will depend on your phone brand and Android version. For Samsung users, You may find specific steps on how to perform this at dontkillmyapp.com.

Add the Pebblebee app to "Do not optimize battery use"

The battery optimization settings will turn off background scanning and prevent the Pebblebee app to check if your devices are nearby.

To change this setting:

  1. Go to your phone 'Settings'.
  2. Search for the Pebblebee app on the apps list.
  3. Search for the 'Battery' section.
  4. Switch it from 'Optimized' to 'Unrestricted' or add it to the 'Not optimized list'.

Add the Pebblebee app to the list of 'Never sleeping apps'

This setting is most common for Samsung users. You might not find it on other phone brands.

Since most users don't open the Pebblebee app very often, if your phone detects you have not been using the app for a while, it might put it to Sleep and turn OFF background scanning activities.

To ensure the Pebblebee app will continue to run, add the Pebblebee app to the 'Never sleeping apps'.

  1. Open your phone 'Settings'.
  2. On the search bar, search for 'Background usage limits'.
  3. On the Sleeping app

Disable "Background restrictions" for the Pebblebee app

To change this setting:

  1. Go to your phone 'Settings'.
  2. Search for the Pebblebee app on the apps list.
  3. Search for the 'Battery' section.
  4. Switch it from 'Optimized' to 'Unrestricted' or add it to the 'Not optimized list'.

Every time you re-install the app or if you reset your phone these settings might be reset and might need to enable them again.
